Islamabad: A team of Pakistani scientists have identified 30 genes among the local population which can be a reason of mental retardation and metal weakness in the society and can set a negative impact on the coming generations.
12 professors of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto University in cooperation of Holland and American experts have conducted an important research. Its thesis has also been published in the weekly international science magazine ‘Nature Molecular Psychiatry’.
While announcing this important research, Vice Chancellor of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto University and the member included in the survey Dr. Javed Akram said that this research proves that the cousin marriages in Pakistan are the cause of the rise in mental retardation among children.

In Pakistan 1.1% of the child born are having extreme mental retardation while 6% of the child are born with a low level of mental weakness.
During this time, the experts of Holland via video conference explained that this research proves genes of the mental retardation and weakness. They also said that the final result of the research will be provided within the next 8 months.
