PTV Sports is currently broadcasting the matches of the ongoing Champions League T20 live from India. The Champions league is one of the biggest T20 tournaments so this might have been a posistive action from the channel but the fact that these matches are being broadcasted instead of the ongoing National T20 Cup in Karachi has irritated the PCB very much and perhaps rightly so.
PCB had worked out a comprehensive agreement with PTV Sports to telecast all the matches of the Haier T20 Cup which is the biggest national T20 tournament in the country. Inspite of the agreement though, PTV Sports suddenly switched to showing the Champions League T20 matches in India.
This action is not only a complete violation of their agreement with the PCB but also goes against the slogan of the channel which proclaims itself as Pakistan’s national sports channel. PTV’s decision may have made sense if they had switched to telecast the match of Lahore Lions, which is the only Pakistani team in the competition, but the matches being shown were of Indian franchised teams which has disgusted the PCB.
PTV’s actions have embarrassed the PCB and the title sponsors of the National T20 Cup and have also infuriated the general population who were looking to watch their local teams in action. Questions are now being raised whether PTV Sports agenda is to promote local sports or just to make money.
