Careem and Uber two giants in mobile taxi service are facing problems from the provincial governments of Sindh and Punjab, banning them is also being discussed in many quarters while it is being said that new tax legislation is also being done.
Chief Minister of Punjab Shehbaz Sharif gave a deadline of 15 days for “registration”. The Sindh government on the other hand said that we have no plan to ban either Careem or Uber.
The Punjab government is forcing the mobile taxi service provider to register as car rental service, after which it will be ruled by laws regarding rental service. It’s to get tax from these companies.
Careem’s Managing Director said that Careem only provides online platform for the ride provider and ride hailer. He questioned that will online platform which provide doctors on demand need to register as Hospitals?
Government officials also said that they should obtain road permits, Junaid Iqbal revealed that the company is in contact with the government for road permit.
