In every nook and corner of cities, districts, small towns and villages there operate private hospitals and clinics. These ‘health care units’ often go unnoticed for their registration and illegal run by the government as well as by the local people. We tend to consult to every other person for our ill-health wearing stethoscope and doctor’s coat, without checking for their legal status and their qualification.
This mistake on our part has resulted into several cases leading to serious conditions and in some, deaths. To support my wordings two cases can be presented to you. It happened in the Punjab province.
A young man, suffered pain in his appendix. He was taken to nearby hospital by his brother. The doctors at the hospital operated him for long time. The patient was discharged right after the operation. The pain persisted, hence he was again taken to hospital and he was operated again by the doctor. The unsatisfied brother then took the patient to a reputable hospital of the city, where he succumbed to his injuries and died despite the experts all efforts.
Similar episode happened with a young pregnant lady. She was brought to the hospital for her pain. Instead the ‘claiming doctors’ operated her no less than the butchers. Her kidneys were removed that led to excessive bleeding. In unstable condition she went on dialysis. [junkie-alert style=”white”] These are the two cases only. Many others go unaddressed daily that happen across the country. [/junkie-alert]
The Punjab government has formed ‘Lahore Health Care Commission’. The body was formed in year 2011 for welfare of people. People here can come up and register complains pertaining to hospital and health units. So far much has been done. The Commission has taken initiatives against many but still its efficiency calls for some imperative actions.
There is need of effective bodies to operate nationally to keep a check on the illegal running medical institutions. A lot needs to be done to alleviate the health standards in our society.
Unfortunately, failure to abiding by the laws and regulations are the outcomes of such monstrous crimes. It is no wrong to say that these ‘low grade tube well runners, uneducated men ‘are monsters and butchers who take lives without being held accountable.
[junkie-alert style=”white”] Commission has allocated penalty of Rs 5 million for the culprits. However, confiscation of properties and lifetime imprisonment should be brought to such people.[/junkie-alert]
Like other Islamic countries, they should be punished in a way that they remain as lesson for others. This would help majorly to overcome crimes and illegal practices in the society. Especially the poor people who easily fall prey to wrongdoers.
