ISLAMABAD: The deadline for the biometric verification of mobile SIMS under National Action Plan (NAP) has been ended and Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has warned if any unverified SIM is used in possible sabotage now, the cellular company of the SIM will be responsible for this. It is pertinent to mention here that the Federal Interior Minister Chauhadry Nisar Ali Khan had extended dates for the biometric verification of SIMS till 15 May which ended last night.
According to sources, PTA has said that it has been decided if unverified SIM is used in any terror incident, the cellular company of the SIM will be accounted for this. The process of verification of seven crores SIMS has been completed across the country so far whereas two crores unregistered SIMS have been blocked. It is pertinent to mention here that PTA gave another chance to the consumers and extended time for the biometric verification of their SIMS.
PTA said that all unverified SIMS would be blocked. PTA added that overseas Pakistanis had requested to issue local mobile number due to which aforementioned decision was made. PTA further said that seven crores and 20 lacs SIMS have been verified so far which were issued on 4 crores and 60 lacs identity cards.
