Bilal Lashari has been refused a share in the profits made through ‘Waar’ by the investor of the film. Bilal Lashari directed the movie ‘Waar’ and was refused a share in the profits by Hasan Waqas Rana. Lashari has filed an FIR against Hasan Rana for not giving his due share. Waar broke Pakistani box office records in 2013 bringing the Pakistani film industry from its dormant state for a short period of time. The movie was based on war against terrorism and its effects in Pakistan.
Lashari has stated in the FIR that he was a partner of the investor in the film, but Mr Rana has deposited a profit worth 200 million rupees in his own personal account and has given nothing from the profits to Lashari. Lashari stated that the movie grasped Rs 250 million, while being made within the budget of Rs 60 million. About 25% of the profits were to be given to Lashari according to the agreement. He stated that Mr Rana had told him initially that the payment had not been given by the cinemas and companies, but later he received a letter about all the payment details, which informed him that the payments had been transferred to a separate account.
Mr Rana however said that Lashari had taken three years to complete Waar, which had tripled the budget and that he had not recovered the losses yet. He also said that Lashari had forced him to give him 25% of the profits or he will delete the film. Mr Rana said that he had to give in to the pressure at that time. Mr Rana claims to have paid Lashari Rs 15 million for his job. Investigations on the case are underway.
