Washington: Following stanch, long and bitter election campaign between the Democrats and Republican candidates, President United States Barack Obama thrashes Republican Mitt Romney winning re-election to a second term in the White House on Tuesday. Obama defeated Romney in a series of key swing states.
After the announcement of official Presidential results, Mitt Romney congratulated the re-elected U.S. President Barack Obama early on Wednesday morning after a bitterly fought battle stating, ‘This is a time of great challenges for America and I pray that the president will be successful in guiding our nation.’
Below is the result of total electoral college race:
Obama: 303
Romney: 206
Obama now enters his second four-year term faced with a difficult task of tackling $1 trillion annual deficits, reducing a $16 trillion national debt, fixing expensive social programs and dealing with a gridlocked U.S. Congress that looked likely to maintain the same partisan makeup.
While addressing the nation after a comprehensive victory, Obama makes thrilling speech, says America’s best is yet to come. “We know in our hearts that for the United States of America, the best is yet to come,” he stated.
