Karachi: Police inspector Zaibunnisa has been appointed as the Bahadurabad SHO in the district east. She will be the second female inspector to be handed this post, after the sub-inspector Ghazala Syed, who was appointed as the Clifton SHO in the district south. The police authorities have appointed another policewoman as the station house officer, to create a gender balance in the law enforcement agencies.
About 111 police stations among the 113 police stations in Karachi have male SHOs, stated Karachi East DIG Munir Ahmed Shaikh. The DIG further added that the police will invest all its efforts and resources into the two police stations at Clifton and Bahadurabad in order to turn it into a model police station.
The police department are aiming at eliminating the essence of gender discrimination from the law enforcement agencies. Additional IG Shahid Hayat Khan went forward with the selection of sub-inspector Ghazala Syed as the SHO Clifton on the suggestion of DIG Khaliq Sheikh earlier. The selection of inspector Zaibunnisa as SHO Bahadurabad has strengthened this stance.
The women have been selected as SHO after a long gap of more than two decades, which is a positive step and will hopefully help in restoring the trust of the police among the people.
