ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has approved the appointment of Vice Admiral Asif Sandila as Chief of Naval Staff; meanwhile Asif Sandela had been promoted on the rank of Admiral and notification of promotion has also been issued.
Asif Sandeal would resume charge of Chief of Naval Staff tomorrow (Friday) after the end of the term of incumbent Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Noman Bashi; meanwhile the notification of Asif Sanedla as Naval Chief would soon be issued by the Defence Ministry.
The decision was taken after Sandila meeting with President Asif Ali Zardari here on Wednesday. Admiral Noman Bashir is scheduled to retire on October 8.
Meanwhile outgoing Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Nauman Bashir, paid a farewell call on Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani here on Wednesday at the PM’s House.
The Naval Chief apprised the Prime Minister about the welfare projects completed during his tenure as well as the latest developments regarding training and education of Navy personnel.
These welfare projects include construction and handing over of houses for retired CPOs/Sailors, construction of residential estate at Younusabad Karachi for serving sailors, Induction of Lady Officers and Female Sailors in Pakistan Navy, the Naval Chief said.
The Prime Minister appreciated the contributions made by the Naval Chief for uplifting the training and living standards of PN Sailors through housing schemes.
The Prime Minister also applauded the role being played by Pakistan Navy in relief, rescue and rehabilitation of flood affectees in lower Sindh and other nation-building efforts undertaken during earlier calamities and natural disasters.
