Karachi: Pakistani Tennis Star Aisam ul Haq Qureshi with his team-mate Jean-Julien Rojer outclassed the World’s number one and tournament’s top seeds Bob and Mike Bryan, stunning everyone in the Madrid Open pre-quarterfinals late Thursday.
Aisam-ul-Haq and his partner will now meet his former doubles partner India’s Rohan Bopanna in the quarter final. Rohan Bopanna and his compatriot Mahesh Bhupati upstaged Santiago Gonzalez and Christopher Kas in their second-round match, played on the same day.
The Pak-Dutch pair was down with 6-4 in the first set of the match but kept hold on their nerves and clinched the next set with the exact same score 6-4 saving five match points to take the match in to a tie-break.
Aisam-Rojer thrashed the world’s most successful men’s doubles team in a nervy tie-break decider at a score of 18-16.
It is worth mentioning here that the win comes on the back of a successful trip at the Estoril Open in Portugal earlier this month, when the Pak-Dutch pair won their first title together. Now they will come face to face against the Indian Doubles Bhupati and Bopanna. In the first round match Aisam and Rojer defeated Daniel Gimeno-Traver and Ivan Navarro.
