Famous singer of Pakistani origin who now lives in India Adnan Sami Khan has lashed Pakistani government after death of legendary folk singer Reshma. Adnan Sami said: “I don’t mourn her death as much as I mourn her last days of throat cancer where she was left to rot alone with no support from her government’s Ministry Of Culture and the government-run ‘Lok Versa’ who are not only supposed to uphold the glory of the folk heritage but also support artistes who create the folk heritage.”
Adnan said that now everyone knows that now here she (Reshma) is but when she was alive most of the people don’t knows where she was living and in which condition. Adnan said that Mubarak Begum, late Mehdi Hassan, Allan Fakir and few other legends have been treated very badly.
Scores of people while commenting on Adnan Sami’s statement said that it is somehow right that Pakistan Government didn’t care of artistes especially old ones but some people also added that it would have been great if now Adnan Sami himself establishes an institution which can care financially for these artists.
Reshma who was awarded Sitara-e-Imtiaz passed away on 3rd November in Lahore. She was suffering from throat cancer.
