8 people own as much wealth as the half population in the world, which means 3.6 billion owns what is owned by just 8 billionaires. This horror image of capitalism was revealed in Oxfam’s this year published report during the World Economic Forum in Davos where international leaders are meeting to talk on several issues.
Previously Oxfam believed that 62 people owns as much wealth as half population of world but new data from china, India and other countries revealed that the poorest people are more poorer than it was though.
The report titled ‘An Economy for the 99 percent’ tried to reveal the gap between rich and poor and how economic advancement and the growth in GDP is increasing this gap. Previously many other independent economists raised questions on the wealth increase and growth in GDP as they believed the growth and increase is for only few multinational companies and not for the poor class of the society.
Those eight people are:
- Bill Gates: founder of Microsoft
- Amancio Ortega: founder of Inditex
- Warren Buffett: CEO and shareholder in Berkshire Hathaway
- Carlos Slim Helu: Owner of Grupo Carso
- Jeff Bezos: founder, chairman and chief executive of Amazon
- Mark Zuckerberg: chairman, chief executive officer, and co-founder of Facebook
- Larry Ellison: co-founder and CEO of Oracle
- Michael Bloomberg: founder, owner and CEO of Bloomberg LP
