Queenstown: Corey Anderson the rising star of New Zealand cracked the 17 year’s old record set by Paksitan’s Shahid Afridi recently, making the fastest century in One-day International (ODI) cricket history on New Year’s Day.
New Zealand’s All-rounder Corey Anderson batting was flawless in the 3rd ODI agianst West Indies in Queenstown. As the game starts, Anderson came into the bat in the eighth over. By the 18th over he reached his century in just 36 deliveries, beating the previous record set by Shahid Afridi, who needed 37 balls to reach three figures playing for Pakistan against Sri Lanka in 1996.
Anderson hit 14 sixes during his innings. Anderson has only played a handful of games in each format. In five Tests, he already got an impressive average of 37, including a century against Bangladesh in Dhaka. Anderson has played eight ODI’s with an outstanding average of 55 and six T-20s with an impressive strike rate of 175. Collectively in all these games he has taken 21 wickets as well.
If we go back to the record breaking ODI century against the West Indies. Anderson says that he just “went with the flow”.
